Semaglutide Storage Guide: Everything You Need to Know
Storage Requirements at a Glance
| Condition | Temperature | Maximum Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator (required) | 36°F–46°F (2°C–8°C) | Until expiration date |
| Room temperature | Up to 77°F (25°C) | Up to 56 days (brand pen); check compounded label |
| Freezer | Below 32°F | Never — causes irreversible degradation |
Where to Store in Your Refrigerator
- Best: Middle shelf — consistent temperature, away from cooling element
- Avoid: Door shelves — temperature fluctuates with every opening
- Avoid: Back of fridge — risk of partial freezing near the cooling coil
Compounded Vial Storage
Compounded semaglutide vials typically contain bacteriostatic water as the diluent. Once in use:
- Refrigerate immediately after each use
- Wipe the rubber stopper with alcohol before each draw
- Do not shake — swirl gently if needed
- Follow the beyond-use date on your pharmacy label (commonly 28–56 days)
- Discard if the solution becomes cloudy, discolored, or shows particles
What If It Gets Warm?
Brief room temperature exposure (under 77°F for less than 8 hours) is generally acceptable for most formulations. Extended heat exposure or temperatures above 77°F require assessment — see our full guide on what happens if semaglutide gets warm.
